Purpose of magazines

• The purpose of magazines is two fold:
• Entertain
• Inform

Tactile is something which you literally pick up.

 

People get pleasure from owning a tactile magazine makes them unique

 

Magazine exist to make money

 

Money is generated from the cover price of course but the primary resource

 

NME - music and the sub genre is rap/ Hip-Hop

Glamour - Female lifestyle

Empire - Film

 

Magazine can be classified according to their content, their target audience and their frequency of publication (weekly, monthly)

 

Whatever the genre and target audience most magazines conform to a set of formal conventions.

 

The sell line should never cover the face.

Mood Board Analysis

This is my mood board i have decided to do UK Rap for my music magazine. On this mood board it has people who have made an impact in todays UK Rap scene, they are also an inspiration for nowadays listeners of this genre. On this mood board we have Chip, DVS, Giggs, Krept & Konan, J Spades, Sneakbo, Tinie Tempah, Wretch 32. The social networks on this mood board are the most used social networks at the moment that these artist use to communicate with their fans, on this mood board we have Instagram and Twitter. Also, at the top of the mood board we have the "MOBO AWARDS", this is where the UK Rap artists get nominated and may win an award for a certain category.

School Magazine & Content Page Analysis

Masthead: Cross Campus, suggesting that the 6th form has two sites

The title is big because it is showing its importance, it also has two bold colours to show the Christmas theme of the magazine issue date under the title.

Theme: the colour scheme is blue, black & white which stands out on the creme background.

Headlines: There are two bold headlines "WINTER'S HERE & CHRISTMAS SEASON", they are both bold to catch the readers eye and draw their attention to grab the magazine.

Badge: It also has a badge with the word "FREE" on it, this is to show my audience that the magazine is free and they will not have to purchase it

Sell Lines: The sell lines attract the college target audience, and are appropriate, They go along with lines of the page and give away information within the magazine. These will attract college students to pick up my magazine.

Main Image: The main image is central and catches the audience's eye. The models on my magazine are posing in a powerful way which gives a sense of intimidation. The shot is a mid shot as their whole body is not needed, just their upper half.

"VIBE" Contents Page

The colour of the content page blends in with what "Chris Brown" is wearing, the theme of the contents page is a black and white colour. VIBE uses the use of orange to highlight the page numbers so that it is more visible to the buyers of the magazine.

The headlines are also in bold and in white to blend in with black background. The typing of the features are brushed all to the left-hand side of the contents page. Also the typing under the headlines it illustrates what the page number contains.

The use of the smoke on Chris Brown is showing us the readers and buyers that he is superior and fly, which then again shows his use of status towards others. It also gives us the assumption that he is classy.

Overall the colour scheme being used all look sophisticated because it matches Chris Brown's sophisticated look.
